Lions of Steel at the Elementary Schools

Elementary runners run at the elementary school gym or playground, weather permitting. If you have an intermediate school aged child, they will run at the intermediate school. The program is offered at both schools. 

We follow the recess rule, if it is 32 degrees or above and not raining or snowing, we will run outside on the playground. If the weather is not good, we will run in the gym. 

Only AM kindergarten, first and second graders are able to participate. PM kindergarteners can register but they will have train on their own. There is not time to offer training during the day to fit their schedules. 

If your child attends EDS before school they are welcome to participate. EDS will bring them to the gym on the run days. 

 ES runners will only run once a week. We will run on Fridays only. 


OPEN RUN TIMES are from 8:30-8:55am at both schools. Children do not have to be there for the entire time. Once the runners have run, they will be dismissed to wait in the lobby or go to their classroom. 


DROP OFF

Children may get dropped off of come to the gym right off the bus. The drop off location for Kids of Steel is different than the parent drop off at the elementary school. Runners can be dropped off at the Garden door. This is actually the parent pick up door in the afternoon. This door is located on the stadium side near the cafeteria. Children should not be dropped off at parent drop off (the circular drive). Please follow SAFE drop off procedures. Children should not be exiting the car unless they are on the sidewalk side. They should never have to cross in front of a vehicle. Please do not park your car, there will be teachers on the road waiting to assist your child or children. Please do not walk your child/children in, teachers will assist the children. Children should exit the vehicle and walk into the building. The line of cars should be facing the high school. If you are coming from the IS you need to drive out onto Old Oakdale Road and come back onto campus so you are on the correct side of the drop off line. It is very important to follow all of these rules. Please do not send children out of the car until there are teachers on the road. Children should wait in the cars until the teachers are there. They may not wait at the door. There are times that the teachers have meetings and might be a few minutes late. Thank you for being patient. We want to keep everyone safe.

DROP OFF TIME begins at 8:30 and ends promptly at 8:45. If you are dropping off after 8:45, you will have to park at the front parking lot and walk your child in the building. 

WHAT TO WEAR

Runners should wear tennis shoes to run and clothes that they would wear to gym on gym days. Shoes can be changed if needed. They may bring a water bottle, although there is water available outside the gym.
